Re: Rich's collection

Is this from the 1989 movie line of stuff? I saw from a piece Derek had that they used super powers batman and modified it some.

Looks like a cool piece. Wish I could grab some preproduction batman stuff also.

Hi Bryan,

This is a Super Powers prototype and not related to the Kenner Dark Knight Collection line. I know the prototype in Derek's collection that you're referring to though, so can see why you asked.

One of the unique features of this unpainted hardcopy match that of an early painted Super Powers Batman painted hardcopy (early one-piece legs for example) as seen in the following image:

Image

If you look at Derek's DKC Batman, the legs exhibit the ankle guards and such.

I helped Rich acquire this piece through a friend and knowing what I know about the particular Kenner source, the provenance is impeccable. I also have a similar one in my collection that I purchased directly from the project manager of the Super Powers line who also did quite a bit of work sculpting a number of Super Powers figures.

The non jointed legs is why I asked. I didn't know super powers had early non jointed legs.

Thanks for sharing that. Do you own the painted one shown?

Hi Bryan,

Yes, early in the sculpting process many characters started with these one-piece legs.

No, Derek owns the painted one shown above. The above photo was taken by a previous owner before Derek who gave me permission to use the photo awhile back.

Re: Rich's collection

I didn't notice it the first time I looked, but both the hardcopy that rich has and the one from Derek's collection have a different right arm than a production piece it appears. I know the production one has a closed fist instead of the opened hand, but the arm on the hardcopies also seems to come closer to the body and is longer. It may be the photo angle making it look longer, but neat to see that these possibly would have had open hands for possible accessories at one point.

Hi Bryan,

Yes, that is one of the neat features. The arm angle is slightly different as well, as you noted, if memory serves me correctly from comparisons I made years ago. The open hand would later be revisited by Kenner for the unproduced Power Plus Batman to hold the batarang accessory that was included with it.
