What would it take to get the Super Powers line restarted...and could WE, the fans, do it?

I'm sure many of my fellow SP lovers have crossed paths with one or more of the recently-released products that feature the SP logo, either in shops or on the internet. I won't go down the list, but it seems like these toys are are in some ways meant to be "tributes" or "remakes" of our beloved line, but in reality, don't live up to the originals.

And maybe that's the point, but I, for one, am waiting and hoping that the original Super Powers line--in the original scale, with the same type of sculpting, articulation and "power action"-- returns. I want the original Super Powers collection restared and continued!

The first question is: what would it take for this to happen? Obviously, there are several factors involved; the licensing issues, getting a group of sculptors together, etc.

The second question is, if the Super Powers line could be restarted, what would it be? I can think of a few cool possibilities:

1) A straight continuation of the line, beginning with the "lost" fourth wave and going beyond that

2) A "retro re-start" that may or may not feature the lost fourth wave, but continues as if the line were still being produced in the mid 80's. In other words, the line would not feature characters that didn't exist then (like Cyborg Superman or Lobo, etc); rather, the line would include characters that could have plausibly been included if the line hadn't ended (Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Guy Gardner, etc.)

3)A mixture of fourth wave, retro, and modern characters with no restrictions. (For example, one series could include an 80's Booster Gold, a Tim Drake Robin, a Hunter-Prey Superman, The Creeper, etc).

Admittedly this is a pipe dream. I would like to hear some others' thoughts on what it would take to pull this off and what the line would be!

It would be cool to see a company actually do a continuation line in the same way the originals were made. Like funko used the old Kenner feel with 5 poa figures.

I think a real Super Powers line similiar to what you described is going to happen eventually. We've seen 6 inch Mattel tributes with Gentle Giant's jumbo-repros and mini-versions coming soon, so companys have been hitting the edges of a new line. But when this will happen is anyone's guess. I just wish I will live to see it.

Have the Jumbos been released yet? What mini versions are you talking about? I knew about the mattel tributes and saw that the jumbos had been in the works, but this is the first I am hearing of a mini version.

It would actually be really easy for DC to restart the line. They own all of the characters and obviously haven't been shy about granting toy companies licenses to create all of the recent "tribute" lines you mention.

Since they seem so conscious of the collecting community, I'm sure it's a question their licensing department has considered so there might be a very good reason why they haven't done a straight continuation, but it could be as simple as they don't believe their would be enough demand to justify it.

If that is the reason, maybe the answer in terms of what we could do would be to simply show them that the demand exists with a petition. I would think it would require several thousand signatures to move the needle, but you never know.

Anyone know how to start an on-line petition?

I think the jumbos will start selling this Spring.

For the record they're going to be selling Teddy Ruxpin in 2017 so if he can make a comeback.... Why not Super Powers 😂

Really, the talking teddy is coming back? With cd or digital capability this time I assume since tapes have gone away?

I wouldn't mind seeing the line return just so newer collectors could have affordable examples whether their preference is for MOC or loose.

Figures Toys is doing something similar with Megos. There's no mistaking the new line for the original so that retains its collectability, but this way more people get to have them, even if not originals.

As for the 4th wave, there aren't too many figures from that line up that I would personally care for. Why they ignored classic female characters in favor of obscure or new characters is odd, especially when there were a few female lines under development (Wonder Woman and the Star Riders), others like Jem were popular, and merchandising tie-ins like the Supergirl movie already existed.

Looking for:
- Gulliver Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern unpunched
- Desaad Series 2 unpunched MOC
- Estrela Cyborg mini comic and other Estrela mini comics
- Mego Teen Titans Kid Flash and Speedy MOC

As far as the power action is concerned, I would imagine that is a proprietary "technology" with the patent owned by Hasbro, no?
