Hard Copy Parts

What do you suppose super powers hard copy parts are worth? Does it matter all that much what figure it goes to? I would assume that the upper leg portion is worth the least and the head is worth the most?

I can only think of two auctions I've seen that hard copy parts sold. One on Ebay and one other one. Ebay was head and arms of an unproduced figure and the other one was a full figure hard copy (which I thought was awesome).

Re: Hard Copy Parts

Hi Steve,

Character plays a huge role in valuation; especially when it comes to parts. I'm a huge fan of parts, but some collectors want complete hardcopies, so valuation can vary a bit between collectors as well depending on preference. A head has the heftiest value followed by the torso. A complete leg might have similar value to an arm, but a separate thigh or lower leg will likely be valued lower than an arm. I'd really love to hear exactly what parts you may have found to see if they go with existing parts that have surfaced.

Re: Hard Copy Parts

There was an auction about two years ago or so with almost a full set of painted hardcopies. Does anybody remember? It ended high, but I don't remember the exact number. I may have a screen capture somewhere of it, I will have to look.

Re: Hard Copy Parts

Hi Bryan,

Yes, I remember that auction all too well! The final number was $45,605 (auction ended September 07, 2013) for the set of 1st and 2nd series Toy Fair catalog photo sample painted hardcopies. The painful part about the auction was that I'd been in contact with the owner a few times over a many year time span, but his initial price was sky high at the time and then when the market would finally catch up, his number would sky rocket again. We just never could work out a price where we were both happy and I sadly ended up as the underbidder when they hit eBay. I guess in some ways we all collectively lost out amidst my defeat as I'd have parted ways with quite a few existing hardcopies in my collection that would have been replaced by the photo sample ones. The seller was a nice guy though, so nothing bad to say about him and they went to the equally appreciative home of another solid SP collector and all around good guy, so that's a bright spot.

Yes Mike that's the one. I knew I was thinking it was close to $2000 per hardcopy. I remember looking at it over and over thinking if only I had the money. Though today it would probably be more if it was sold by the piece. Glad to hear it went to a good collector home though. I vant seem to find the pictures I had from it, do you recall if the weapons were also the dynacast resin material. It seems like I remember looking at green arrows bow specifically and seeing that it was even made out of that material. That was before I was around here and was just researching the line and costs of items.

Hi Bryan,

Yes, I believe the weapons were all hardcopies as well. The unit price was indeed pretty reasonable and the seller could definitely have made more money selling them individually, but he felt the collection should stay together and I agree 100% with that.

Here is the auction.

I knew I had the auction saved somewhere.

That being two years ago, at about 2000 per figure for a full figure. Of course prototype prices can jump all over the board and right now it seems even production prices are at a high so ho knows in today's market.

I remember that auction and just being staggered by the idea that those hardcopies had all been preserved and kept together all this time. To me it was amazing that something that big and that unique could surface after all this time.

Agree that they would have sold for more if sold off individually. I bet they would have averaged more like $3k-$3,500 per figure if sold like that back then or in today's market. So whoever got the lot probably did very well with it.
