International shipping

Thought Id throw this out there in the hopes someone has more experience receiving international packages. Long story short I've got an item coming from Germany. It's been in customs for over a month with the tracking saying "we have received notice that the origin is preparing to dispatch this mail piece". My problem is PayPal only gives you 45 days to file a dispute. My question is is it normal for it to take this long? I'm planning to file the disput at the 40 day mark just to cover myself. Anyway input and guidance welcomed!

Thanks

Rich, i have never received from Germany, but I can tell you from Mexico and the UK this happens from time to time. I have never failed to get something but have had items take over a month to clear customs before. Usually whatever service they used like royal mail or the Mexico mail system have local tracking in their country and usps will track it once in the states.

I've had stuff get hung up on Customs coming from the UK. And it's taken a WHILE. So you may not be wrong to escalate the dispute while you have the time, but likely, you're ok.

Re: International shipping

Never had anything held up in customs from the UK or Brazil.
China on the other hand spent almost 20 days in customs.
Mexico is iffy at best. I had an item just sit there forever. I waited until the last day to file. I was immediately awarded a refund (same day). Exactly two weeks later the items shows up. I contacted paypal was told good for you the claim is closed and there is nothing we can do. Now here I sit with the full refund and the product. I emailed the seller and explained what happened and asked for there paypal again, and sent the money again.

What I learned from this is paypal will screw over a seller in a heart beat, if it shipped and is in customs it will arrive eventually.

I've heard you can call the customs office and give them the tracking number and ask what the hold up is. Never tried so it could be BS too.
