Rich, I went back and checked my old e-mails and the seller was actually asking $12,500, but offered it to me for $11,500 if I paid quickly.

I remember thinking if it were $8-10k, I would figure out a way to swing it (worst-case I could always sell a bunch of stuff to pay for it), but that $11,500 was just too much for a single figure, so I passed.

Not sure if I made a mistake or not, although I will say I have far more regret over not buying that Golden Superman last summer than not buying the carded Belloq in Ceremonial Robes.

I think if I was offered one today, I would probably still have the exact same reaction. If it were $8-10k, I'd buy it. More than that, probably pass. But the figure could have appreciated significantly in the last few years, so maybe $11,500 would have been a great price in retrospect!

Here are the photos of the piece:

And here's the thread that discussed it. The link to the auction is there as well.

It was an authentic hand-painted Golden Superman proto-type (I would imagine a one-of-a-kind) with the straighter molded arms for flight.

I was one of the under-bidders at just over $3,300, along with Mike and Geoff (apparently we each thought it was worth about $3,500). Almost immediately I regretted not going all-in and bidding more like $5k.

Rich, did you see that AFA 85 vinyl cape Jawa sell on E-Bay for $10k a couple weeks ago? I'm not normally one for variations, but that guy was awesome.

Personally, if I'm going for a big bucks Star Wars figure though, I'd want the POTF carded Anakin or Yak Face. Love those two, and hopefully one day I can pick up nice 75-ish examples.

ive shot myself in the foot over holy grails like that too, and instantly regretting not putting a much higher bid than I did. this is a beautiful piece, it truly is. too bad we haven't seen a piece like this, or any prototype for that matter, in a while.

Yup, I was watching thst listing just to see where it ended. I knew it would get crazy high! Those POTF characters are def rare and fetch a pretty penny! I think an AFA 60 POTF Anakin recently went for in the neighborhood of 4 grand. emoticon

Aaron did you mention needing the 4-pack mail away or did I read that wrong?

If so there is an ungraded set, open box, sealed baggies in the vintage indiana jones Facebook page!

Ken, thanks so much for the tip! I'm not actually interested in that piece, but I had no idea that Facebook group existed. I've joined up and hope it will be a great resource. Thanks man.
