Yeah, I tried that. While it is obviously similar, I've discovered the mold for the buck and the legs and the neck/head are significantly different on the Hulk and Snowman. Not to mention the most important difference, the whole scale is different. So if you wanted to display with your captain ray, you'll have to find a larger hulk to start with.

Re: abominable snowman???

I'm with Mike on this one. It's got a sort of novelty value, but I look at the snowman and even Captain Ray as essentially bootlegs and not unique figures to the Super Powers line.

Same with the Riddler actually. While not a true bootleg, it's just a re-painted Green Lantern with new packaging. That's why I've never felt compelled to add one to my collection.

Now if these were unique sculpts and genuine production figures that were only issued outside the US (like Yak Face or the Italian-only Mego Black Hole figures or the Europe only-Secret Wars figures), I'd be all over them.

But as they are, it's not my cup of tea, even more so when they aren't in the package.

yea a lot of collectors feel the same way, because its a bootleg. But is it truly a bootleg like capitan ray? If so, then don't the rest of the Gulliver figures or estrella figures count as bootlegs? =/ hmmmm, im not sure. Either way, I know that ALOT of people also want a snowman very bad.

I haven't studied up or researched the gulliver line, but if they had the right to produce the super powers toys then They would not be a bootleg. A bootleg is a mass marketed figure line that does not have the official licensing to produce the figures. They most of the time closely resemble the actual licensed product (Star Wars uzay) sometimes they are changed from the original slightly (Star Wars polish unarticulated) or they are completely off the mark but still have the feel of the original at heart (2nd series of model terms which uss some Star Wars parts). These are just examples.

To me it depends on if gulliver had the license rights to produce the figures. The captain Ray and abominable snowman figures were not released un super powers were they? I thought their cardbacks said something else? This may be similar to what happend with model trem.

Gulliver had a license to produce Super Powers and the Super Powers figures, but took their own characters and released them under a Super Heroes banner that closely resembled the SP logo. The Super Heroes wannabe SP logo figures are the ones I consider bootleg figures.

I can see your point on differentiating them from bootlegs, but I still see a repainted SP figure with a made-up character name and a Mego pocket Hulk figure with different color mold for another made-up character.

I don't think the Snowman has the feel of a Super Powers figure, and I think the Captain Ray just looks like a custom-painted figure of a non-existent character.

I get that many collectors disagree with me and really like these two (and the Riddler), but like I said, just not my cup of tea.

Then again, I'm also someone who didn't buy repaints of the X-Men line when I was buying those figures new because all I saw was a repaint, not a new original figure. So maybe this is just an extension on my point of view on repaints.

I agree Ken. Especially since their cardbacks say something else. That puts them more leaning towards a bootleg anyway. The thing that gets me with gulliver is they obviously were looking on money saving ways as they made the figures with no knee joints. That is why I figured that maybe they did not have the license. I know I compare everything to Star Wars because that is where most of my knowledge is, but with Star Wars toys the other factories worked closely with kenner using the same figure molds which is why the same copyrights can be seen from different companies. With gulliver they had to make their own molds to leave out the knee joint.

Overall the gulliver line doesn't interest me with the exception of a batman and that is only because I want that character.
