Autographed Carded Figures

Just curious what your thoughts are on getting carded figures autographed.

I ask because I'm headed to Motor City Con in a few weeks, and Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez is going to be there. I've loved his art forever, and I'm really tempted to have him autograph one of my carded SP Flashes.

Hey Joe,

My option on autographing carded figures varies on a case by case basis. Considering US Flash is pretty common I think it'd be cool to have one signed.

Just my opinion!
Have fun at the con!

Autograph collectors day it adds to the value. Most action figure collectors I know say it devalues the item.

That said I have a GA signed by Mike Grell! Thanks to one member here, we split the cost of the auction and I got it for about what a MOC GA normally sells for.

It's a personal choice for you and another MOC Flash can always be had. If it were me I'd have it signed.

Autographs to me are a personal choice. As long as I have intentions of keeping the carded figure a long time, then why not if that's what I want. Kinda like Ken stated, I wouldn't get it with the intentions of selling later on, due to it being more difficult to sell because you cut out part of the market.

Not really into it for figures, unless it wassomeone who designed the artwork or scultped the figure itself...even then there are other better items to get signed, like the catalogues or posters showing all the figures.

Do we know which pieces of card art were done by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez? All of them?

Phil, I think he did them all. I'm pretty sure they were all just out of the 1984 DC style guide, which he did. Definitely the first series, anyway.

I thought long and hard about having Adam West autograph my Batman. In the end I did not do it. I do have a signed figure by the artist but it is never going to be for sale.

I think it totally depends on the collector and your intent for the piece.

I've no intention of selling any of my Flashes any time soon, nor am I interested in getting any of them graded or anything like that. I'm leaning towards having him sign one of the 12-backs.

My other concern is with carrying a carded figure around the show all day and not damaging it at all. I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Hey Joe,

Do you have any zolo cases? One of those should keep it pretty safe. Be sure to post a pic after emoticon
