First Figure....

Was going through old pics on my lap top to clear out junk I didn't want and came across lots of pics from a while back when I first started my collection. Thought it could be cool to hear everyone's stories about the first figure they scored for their collections (as adults) and if you still have it maybe share a pic.

I'll kick things off.

First figure I got was my AFA 85 slim carded Bats. Was watching the London Summer Olympics and had been reading lots of posts here(before joining) and scoping Mike's site. I had been wanting to start a collection for a while (years) and I finally just pulled the trigger and made a best offer. Seller had it set to automatically accept a certain amount. Few seconds later I'd officially started my collection emoticon

I guess I can't ever sell this guy!

Interesting idea/story Rich! And the Batman was definitely a great way to start! I wish I could offer you a similar story for me, but I really cant remember. Not even sure when "Adult" collecting would officially begin for me, since I've been collecting one thing or another since 7th grade. I CAN recall, for some reason, being in high school, mowing lawns in the summer to make money, and being really excited that I had a SP Martian Manhunter on its way to me. I'm sure he wasn't my first figure, but the memory stands out because I cant recall the last time I was THAT excited to get a figure in the mail.

For me I started out with Loose guys, and since i had them all except Cyborg as a kid.. Cyborg was my first adult "figure" but not my first SP purchase as an adult for me.

Back in 2008 when I started collecting again, my first pick up was a Canadian Kalibak Boulder Bomber and Delta Probe One in one lot.

Re: First Figure....

Yeah I've had lots of collection over the years myself. I wish I still had my first vintage Star Wars figure. I bought it back when I was about 13 and was collecting the heck out of the new Star Wars toys in the mid 90s. My local comic shop had a 12 back Jawa w the proof of purchase cut out. I remember thinking 20$ was a steal since I assumed anything vintage was priceless! Wish I still had it for the sentimental value.

I also wish I kept one of my "Theatre Luke" figures. I had 3! We got em when we saw ROTJ Special Edition. All my friends knew I loved the toys and gave me theirs emoticon anyone else get one the night they released the special edition?

I shoulda hung onto one but those college books didn't pay for themselves. emoticon

Jon the cyborg was a good place to start emoticon did you end up hanging on to the boxed vehicles?

Hey! I just learned something new! I had no idea there was a theater Luke. But I didn't see those movies opening night. As I recall, I saw them all, several times of course, on the first Saturday they opened. Totally would have gone opening night if I had known there were figures involved! Cool! Have you gone back and reaquired him? He appears to be very reasonably priced.

My first carded figure was Flash. He ended up being a MIM. I wish I could remember my first SP figure as a kid, probably Batman or Superman.

Re: First Figure....

Mentioned this in my intro post but the first Super Powers figure that I purchase as an adult collector was back around 2000 or 2001. Picked up a MOC Mr Miracle Canadian card off of Ebay for $100. Very clean card, felt like a steal at the time as he was one of the few figs we didn't have as kids. My brother and I came across him at a Target and begged for him but mom said we could get him "next time."....of course never saw him again (I seem to recall a very similar situation with an original Storm Shadow that I missed out on...that one hurt).
