Rasoul

Hey everyone! A little bit about myself.

Name: Rasoul Ezzat-Ahmadi

Occupation: Computer Tech/Related

Hometown: Jenks, OK

Website: http://www.computertrendz.com/
(Lots of Star Wars references on my website, haha)

Collecting Since: Not counting the stuff I have from when I was a kid, I'd say mid-90s

Collecting Interests: I'm interested in several toy lines, but I would need a MUCH larger house and wallet to get everything I like, so I'll get one or two of a set I like (TMNT, Terminator, Predator, Beetlejuice, +others) and then I'll stick to my favorite lines as much as I can.

-Super Powers
-Batman related
-Star Wars (Vintage)

I have a lot of Star Wars (because there's SO MUCH to choose from as a collector) but my main focus has been Batman since I was a kid and my favorite set to collect is Super Powers. My Star Wars collection is mainly modern (post 95) but in the past few years I've quit buying anything modern with very few exceptions and have tried to get into collecting some of vintage figures I like.

My main focus right now is collecting Super Powers, it's a lot of fun and I really like the small community we have on the forums here. If I were to narrow down my focus even further on Super Powers, I'd say it's collecting the different foreign lines (or attempting to collect, haha). And if I were to drill down even more to pick something to focus on then it's Batman, Green Lantern, and Superman (in that order).

Other Interests: Unfortunately for my personal life, I'm a bit of a workaholic. Sometimes by choice but mostly it's due to necessity. I run a small computer business and I'm the primary tech so I often find myself doing all of my onsite tech work during the day, then coming back to the shop after hours to do the items the other techs leave for me if they run into issues or have questions on things. In between I somehow manage to do the paperwork, ticket updates, invoicing, checking emails, and whatever else I'm supposed to do on a day to day basis. So in between all of that I don't really have time for hobby's so collecting fits in with my schedule because I can do most of it on my phone throughout the day a few minutes here and there.
Other than collecting, I enjoy playing guitar when I can find time. I used to be in a band, an original group. Wrote some songs, played some shows, had fun. Since the band (like many other local bands) was somewhere between "pretty bad" and "bad", when the business started growing the music had to take the backburner and we never advanced to "slightly better than bad".
Also, I really like turtles and lizards. So I have a lizard cage with a few mountain horned lizards (low maintenance) and a small pond out front where I keep about 10 red-eared sliders. I also have an aquarium where I keep/breed African Convict Cichlids (also low maintenance and easy to breed).

Hi Rasoul,

Very cool to hear about your interest in turtles and Cichlids as we have those interests in common! I'm responsible for all facets of our aquatic exhibits at work...something I do as a favor to our education section. My turtle exhibits house the following species:

1. Eastern box turtle
2. Diamondback terrapin
3. Painted turtles (2)
4. Red eared slider

The African cichlids I keep at home include:

1. Yellow Labidocromis
2. Cherry Red Zebras (2)

Two of the cherry reds yielded fry a few years back, but only one survived and is still in my tank along with the remaining parent.

How long have you been breeding convicts?

Mike,

Very cool! I don't know a whole lot about fish but one of my previous coworkers worked at a fish shop in Maryland and wanted to get me started on a tank. When my turtles outgrew my 55 gallon I dug them a small pond outside and had him pick something for my aquarium. He said African cichlids were his favorite and suggested a few convicts because they're low maintenance and breed easily (with my schedule low maintenance is key). Sure enough in just a few weeks I had some fry! Now I have about a dozen or so that survived. He said I can put some in the pond over the summer and the population will explode, but I'm hesitant to do that. I usually throw 50-60 feeder goldfish in the pond every few weeks and I'll get the occasional survivor that gets really big, but he thinks since the convicts are very intelligent and very fast then almost all of them will survive and I might eventually have a population problem. Especially since my turtles are very lazy and previously spoiled from being indoors. They also have a hard time seeing fish that are darker in color.

He has since moved back to Maryland (part of the reason I've been having to work so much lately) but I've lost my "go to guy" for all things fish related. I might have found my new guy, haha. emoticon

Cool. We have a couple Eastern Three-toed Box Turtles we keep in the back yard. They are currently hibernating. Should wake up and be out and about in a couple weeks.

When i was a kid, i remember one of my buddies had Convicts. I always thought they were cool. He was always talking about how easy it was to breed them and showing me all the babies.

I think we need an "off topic" post with everyone's fish/turtles. I'd love to see pics of Mike's turtle exhibits and Bill's turtles, as well as all the fish! Could be a cool thread. emoticon

The discussion you guys are having reminds me when my Dad had a pretty crazy obsession with salt water fish. He had a lionfish and I would watch him put his whole arm in the tank to clean it with the lionfish in there. Never got stung at all, but always scared me watching him do it as a kid!

He still has his Koi pond.... those suckers can get huge! I always enjoyed feeding them.

I'm all for an off-topic discussion on all your turtles and fish! This is right up my alley! I always had turtles and fish growing up. Had 2 Sulcata Tortoises while I was in undergrad, but got rid of them because they were just getting too big. I had them in a kiddie pool in my room.

I've always done tropical fish. Had a 55 gallon tank going a couple years ago. I would LOVE to get back into it, but right now dont have the money or the space to do it. But once school is over and I have a bigger place I'll definitely do another tank. I've never done cichlids, but would have an interest. I've always really liked Oscars, but only when they're small. When they get bigger they lose some of the beauty. Salt water would be awesome, but I've always been afraid of expense.

The lion fish cleaning memory mimics one of my own. I was at a pet store as a kid and saw someone cleaning the lion fish tank, arm all in just like Jon mentioned. My dad pointed out to the guy that that was a little dangerous. emoticon I actually saw some face to face a few weeks ago. I'm currently in Australia and was doing diving on the Great Barrier Reef and finally saw some. They've always been among my personal favorites.

I'm getting in on the turtle discussion! When I was a kid 11-15 I had three red eared sliders. I lived in Jacksonville, FL those years and loved the wild life there. I had a pretty sweet aquarium set up for them and really enjoyed having them. I donated them to my school when I moved back north. Rocky, Buddy, and Spike were cool dudes! I'd like to set up another aquarium some day.

I'm thinking box turtles are easier to care for. Is this assumption correct?

Rich

Hi Guys,

I liked Rasoul's idea for a dedicated Turtle/Fish thread, so I cooked one up at the following link:
